There is something about a gritty little love/hate story that is so gratifying! I’m not sure what I was expecting when I started this book, but I wound up with a book that I couldn’t put down, having read it in one sitting.
Sophia is starting college, something her mom told her would never happen. This book starts five years in the past. Sophia and Preston are 14 year old best friends, hiding in the solace of each other in the face of their terrible home lives. Preston always tells Sophia that he will be there for her no matter what. It is them against the world. He promises that the two of them will get out of their nothing town and away from their evil parents together…
That all changes when Sophia wakes in the middle of the night to find her world changed forever… Not only that, but Preston has up and left… All the times he held her close, promising all of their firsts to each other, all of those moments he protected her… They were lies.
This was a great first look into this series. The book leaves you wanting more! I want to know who Sophia and Preston are as adults. I want to know if Preston can soften the hardened shell that he caused Sophia to adapt.
